Born in an abandoned steel mill on the banks of Pittsburgh’s three rivers, Metal Shop 101 still burns hot with Doc Rock at the helm—forging the best of the local rock and metal scene.
Tattoos, long hair, denim, and band tees may scream bad boy, but beneath it all Doc Rock has a huge heart and a gift for lifting up musicians. Metal Shop 101 began over 20 years ago as a DJ night at the Rock-A-Bye Café, where local bands started bringing in their own music to share, learn, and be heard.
Though the bar is long gone, the fire never died. After a brief retirement, Doc Rock brought Metal Shop 101 online, giving local and unsigned bands worldwide exposure.
Today, the original Metal Shop 101 banner still hangs proudly in the studio—a symbol of unwavering dedication to Pittsburgh metal and the bands that keep it alive.
